“Science is a way of knowing, and a tool. Like all ways of knowing and tools, it can be turned to bad uses. And it can be bought and sold, and it often is.”
-Margaret Atwood

This song is inspired by Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam Trilogy, in which the author imagines a race of pig-like creatures called "pigoons" that survive an apocalyptic holocaust and set out to take revenge on the few humans that remain. Further inspiration comes from the true story of "Hogzilla," a monstrous 800-lb beast that actually turned out to be a hybrid of wild boar and an escaped factory pig that had gone feral. The pink factory pigs that we subjugate by the million are genetically compatible with the fearsome wild boar, and can revert back to wild in a matter of days. Evolution, driven by mutation, naturally occurs over extended timescales. We envision an amusing scenario when genetic tinkering unlocks hidden capabilities within the genome of subjugated species in a significantly more compressed - and violent - incident.

Escaping from the feculent prison
They never noticed she was gone
Mutations from a distant past have come
To light inside this humble wretch
A strength emerges, intelligence arises
Innate domestication wanes
Across the fields, a sea of endless gray
Her instincts drive her to the lights

Driven by
Nature's unyielding hand
The course of evolution
Reverses its flow

Natural selection as commodification
Subverts the predestined design
Deep in the genome, a safety valve is opened
Nature is bent upon revenge
No trepidation, she storms into the building
Bearing the wrath of generations

Driven by
Nature's unyielding hand
The course of evolution
Flows in reverse

The floors are slick with blood
The doors are open

Humanity is unprepared
As the mutations blossom forth
And they attempt to crush a species
They engineered to persevere

Supposed apex predator
Gone to seed
The forebears of an ancient species are reborn
From the smoldering ashes
The new order rises

Ripping and tearing, the tusk like a knife
Screaming in terror now run, run for your life
Driven by instinct, bent on revenge
Enveloped by madness you can't comprehend

Corrects its course
